Representing Australia: Our International Future Problem Solving team

In just four days, 16 ¿ìè¶ÌÊÓƵ students from Years 7 to 10 will join over 2000 champion problem solvers from around the globe at the World Finals International Conference for Future Problem Solving (FPD) in Indiana, USA.

We congratulate Leila A, Joash A, Lucas C, Emma H, Mitra J, Isabella J, Joanna L, Katrina L, Luke R, Oscar S, Cady S, Eli S, Maddie T, Isabella T, Macsen VG and Shawn Y on their incredible achievements so far, and wish them the best of luck for the World Finals!

Considering the strength of our FPS program, it is no surprise that we now have 64 students involved in preparing for the upcoming qualifying rounds. It is hard to believe that FPS at Covie only began in 2019, spearheaded by Extension and Enrichment Coordinator and FPS coach, Amanda Drain. The program started with just two teams, one of whom progressed to Nationals that year. Since then, the program has only gone from strength to strength, with teams qualifying to compete at Nationals every year since.

World Finals International Conference 2023

In 2023, our first group of students qualified to compete at the World Finals International Conference. We sent five students, with our individual competitor, Jannik M, being awarded the Middle Division Champion for Global Issues Problem Solving, and our Junior Team placing 4th in Global Issues Problem Solving and 5th in their Action Plan Presentation. What a start!

World Finals International Conference 2024

At the International Conference in 2024, our team was awarded 3rd place in the Junior Division Action Plan Presentation and 7th for Junior Global Issues Problem Solving - simply incredible!

Of the 44 students were part of FPS last year, 33 students qualified for Nationals, where our teams were awarded 1st and 2nd place in the Junior Division, and 1st and 4th place in the Middle Division for Global Issues Problem Solving. Simply incredible! These students are now ready to travel to Indiana where they will compete at the World Finals International Conference from 4-8 June.

Learning in a Christian school that is guided by the principles of faith, servanthood and stewardship helps our students frame their thinking in an ethical and compassionate manner, providing practical application of our school motto, ‘All knowledge through Christ’.

It is no surprise that our students continue to excel at a National and International level given the expertise, brilliance and commitment of our FPS coach, Amanda Drain. We were thrilled when she was awarded the Keith Frampton Memorial Award earlier this year. This award recognises coaches who go above and beyond to provide challenging opportunities for their students. We are incredibly thankful to God for Amanda and her passion for our students to think creatively and critically, preparing them for the complex challenges that lie ahead for their generation.
